An Ode to Jonathan Livingstone Seagull
In the pages of a dusty book
I found someone whom I always knew…
Someone who existed somewhere…
in the deep bend of my heart
He was there waiting to be rediscovered
He was the answer to many of my questions.
For other’s he might be…
Richard Bach’s Jonathan Livingstone Seagull!!
But for me he’s the motivation to go on and on…
Never before flew a bird in the whole wide world
With wings flapping ever so proud
Ideas so great that they became priceless
Jonathan… are you just a seagull?!
Jonathan you showed me the path
My life should lead into…
You gave directions to my life’s raft…
which was wandering listlessly since God knows when.
Infact, you gave me my reason to live!
Every question you faced
Every answer you found
Has connived to make my resolve strong
Now I just want to live my life…
The way ‘I’ want it to be
I mayn’t have your wings O’ Jonathan
But still I’m learning how to fly
Seeing me trying that hard
Maybe someone will join me one day.
Together we’ll fly one day
Above the sea which you once graced
As I glanced through the last few pages of Bach’s book
I now realize that my life would never be the same again.
I am learning how to fly
O’ brother Jonathan a thousand thanks to thee
All my pains, all my tears…
Can’t stop me from flying now
You are the ‘unconquerable spirit’ of the human spirit
Like a candle flickering in the gusty winds
You are within us all
But we’ve got to learn to fly…
To liberate you within ourselves…
To let the candle burn strongly.
I don’t want to prove to anyone that---
“I can also fly”!
I just want to live up to myself.
I just want to be myself.
I found someone whom I always knew…
Someone who existed somewhere…
in the deep bend of my heart
He was there waiting to be rediscovered
He was the answer to many of my questions.

An amazing piece of literature. It was the first time that I was albe to encounter such post in my blog readings. It is so inspiring that I myself indulged to some writing.
